Margarita Scramble 2012
Every year in June it is Margarita Time four our annual Margarita Tournament Scramble which means Joe’s Frozen Margarita’s and Tostado’s luncheon. We usually have a good group even though our membership is small. We had four foursomes and agreed to invite guest so that helped build the teams.
My guest Hulda Horton was a former President of the LGA and she had that job twice in 1985 and 1991. I met her at an affair where I had decorated my table full of colorful Mexican display. She approached me as to why this theme and I told her that for several years I had hosted the Margarita Tournaments at my home and had plenty of colorful decorations. She mentioned that she had enjoyed these events when she was with the LGA several years ago. She said they were such fun events so I asked if she would want to join us this year. She agreed and she was my guest for the day.
We both arrived early as it was a 9:00 a.m. tee off time so we practiced putting while we waited for the tournament chairman Janet Gravette to arrive. After all teams were filled we took off for a shotgun start and we were lucky enough to start on Hole One. Janet Gravette has been tournament chairman for the past three years it seems no one wants to take on this job. I was her co-chair three years ago and have offered to help whenever she asks. She is a hard worker and does it right but three years is too much. We need more members to share in these jobs.
Janet had arranged for her and Rosalie another LGA member to team up with my guest and me.. Hulda was not able to swing away as she had hurt her shoulder but would chip and putt for us in the scramble which worked out fine. She said that she hadn’t played golf for years since she had hurt her shoulder and had to give up the game. She ended up by putting on two holes to give us birdie’s and she was thrilled as on the last hole it was a long putt and she holed it.
We always have a Mexican meal and frozen Margarita’s after the scramble. We have been going to Joe and Charlie’s home as Joe makes the best frozen margarita. Charlie had broken her ankle when she was playing in another golfing event when she stepped in a hole. She is getting along alright but it will take a while to heal. She loved to welcome everybody and we all helped out getting the meal together as Joe kept the blender going with those great margaritas.
It will be interesting to see if our LGA hangs together for another year. We all play lots of golf but the organization of this group seems to be losing interest. The tournaments seem to bring members out but on regular ladies day we are lucky to get six members to play. Another Margarita Tournament is over and we all had a great time.
