Dragon Ball Z 20th Century-SONGS BEST is a soundtrack CD that was released for Dragon Ball Z in Japan in 2013 to help promote the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods anime film. The soundtrack has a total of 15 songs included on it.

To no one's surprise, the disc opens with "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA," the iconic opening theme song for Dragon Ball Z. However, it should be noted that this is the full-length version of the song and not the edit that was used for the opening theme song. I enjoyed getting to hear the full version of the song, and I like it a little better than the edit that was used on the show. Not that the edit is bad, but the song just seems to be a little stronger in this longer version.

Next is "Come Out, Incredible ZENKAI Power!," which was the first ending theme for the Dragon Ball Z anime series. Again, this is the full-length version of the song instead of the edit that was used in the anime series. However, unlike "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA," I think the shorter version of this particular song is stronger.

This is followed by "Battle," the song that appears in the ending credits for the Dragon Ball Z film, The World's Strongest. This is a catchy number, and it is, in my opinion, a lot better than the film that it was used for.

The fourth track is "The Whole World," which was the song that appeared in the ending credits for the Dragon Ball Z film, The Tree of Might. While this is an OK song, it’s not one of my favorites from the Dragon Ball Z films. This is probably due to the chants of "Dragon! Dragon!" that appear in the chorus; personally, I find that to be a little on the annoying side.

Next is "Journey Of Light," which is from the Dragon Ball Z television special, Bardock, the Father of Goku. It's the longest song on the disc, and it's also one of the slower songs included on this release. It's not a bad song, but it's not one I recognize immediately when I hear it.

The sixth track is "The Incredible Mightiest vs. Mightiest," the ending credit song from the Dragon Ball Z film, Cooler's Revenge. It's a decent song, and it works very well as an ending credit song.

"Hero (You're the Hero)" is the ending credit song from the Dragon Ball Z film, The Return of Cooler. This is a very upbeat track, and is one of the more memorable ending credit songs from a Dragon Ball Z film.

This is followed by "Mind Power... Energy...,” which appeared in episode 139 of the Dragon Ball Z television anime series. I have to admit that when I hear this song on the CD, it's not instantly recognizable to me like many of the other songs that appeared on this release have been.

"At the Brink: The Earth's Limit" is used for the ending credits of the Dragon Ball Z anime film, Super Android 13! While it may not be quite as catchy as some of the other end credit songs, it's still better than the film that it was used for.

Next is "Blue Wind of Hope," which is used for the Dragon Ball Z television special, The History of Trunks. It's another enjoyable song to listen to.

"Burning Fight: A Close, Intense, Super-Fierce Battle" was used as the ending credit song for the Dragon Ball Z film, Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan. This is an upbeat and catchy song, and the chanting that appears during it kind of reminds me a cheerleading chant.

This is followed by "Day of Destiny: Spirit vs. Spirit," which appeared in episode 184 of the Dragon Ball Z television anime series. Just like the other song that had appeared in an actual episode of the anime series, I have to admit that it's not instantly recognizable to me when I hear it on the CD. It's a good song, but it's just not instantly recognizable.

"Surpassing the Galaxy, Rising High" was the ending credit song for the Dragon Ball Z film, Bojack Unbound. This is another catchy and instantly recognizable song on this CD, and I also believe this song is ultimately better than the film that it was used for.

"We Gotta Power" was the second theme song for the Dragon Ball Z television anime series, and the full-length version of the song is included on this disc. While this isn't necessarily a bad song, it's just not as strong or as catchy as "CHA-LA HEAD CHA-LA." This is also another song that is a little stronger in its edited form.

The disc concludes with "We Used to Be Angels," the second closing theme for the Dragon Ball Z television anime series. Again, while it's not a bad song, it's not quite as strong or as memorable as "Come Out, Incredible ZENKAI Power!"

One thing I'm grateful for when it comes to this release is the fact that Gohan's songs from Dead Zone and The World's Strongest were not included. I also am impressed with the fact that the songs were sequenced on the disc in such a way that the songs appear in chronological order.

I have to say that overall, this is a decent Dragon Ball Z soundtrack CD, even if it is missing the ending themes for some of the later Dragon Ball Z films. To be honest, this is probably as close as it'll get to having a complete collection of the Dragon Ball Z songs on one disc.

Unfortunately, this disc is only available as an import straight out of Japan. If this is a CD that you're interested in adding to your anime music collection, be sure to look around at sites that sell Japanese import CDs and try to find the best deal.
