Nature's Bounty Protein Shake Mix

Nature's Bounty Protein Shake Mix is specifically aimed toward a female body. It is formulated to provide the vitamins and nutrients a woman typically needs.

Nature's Bounty Protein Shake Mix I first want to give Nature's Bounty great kudos for its transparency. You can see the exact full label online, and it gives you a detailed breakdown of exactly what is in its shake. It provides 100% of a number of nutrients like Vitamin C, Thiamine, Niacin, and so on. Not only does it tell you what it's providing, but HOW it's providing it. Vitamin C is Ascorbic Acid. Vitamin B-6 is Pyridoxine Hydrochloride. You get the details of the flaxseed, the ProbioGuard Probiotic Blend, and so on. It's even sweetened with Stevia.

The question, then is how it tastes, and how this compares with other options.

So first, the taste. We use a wide variety of protein powders in our weekly life, because of the recipes we design for the low carb site, the fact that we have veggie shakes fairly often, and just for general health reasons. We found this to be unappealing and chalky. Where our other protein powders do just fine with water, this one suffers greatly.

How about the protein you get? We did a comparison against four other protein powders we happen to have in the house.

Nature's Bounty - .45g protein / g serving
Jarrow - .61g protein / g serving
EAS - .67g protein / g serving
Simply Right - .77g protein / g serving
Vitamin World - .86g protein / g serving

So out of the five, Nature's Bounty has the least actual protein it's supplying. In terms of the vitamins, my normal daily vitamin provides more than this does, plus many more things. That is, I wouldn't stop taking my normal daily vitamin because I was having this protein shake. In terms of how much you're paying for the protein you get, several of the shakes are cheaper, and even though technically the Vitamin World is more expensive, it's also much higher quality and I would say "worth it".

So on one hand if you're eating sugary cereals, this is absolutely a step up. If this is what it takes to get you to start trying veggie smoothies, then it's a good step to take.

On the other hand, compared with other protein powders out there, I'm just not sure this is the best option. It costs more, tastes less than great compared with the others, and the vitamin offering is fairly anemic compared with other offerings.

So I'll give this 4/5 stars as being a reasonably good starting point. But definitely if you like this one, I'd try other better options out there, to look at what else is out there.

I was provided a review sample from the Amazon Vine program.
