Pay Attention to Putting

In the game of golf the most important element to good scoring is your putting. On the greens is where golfers add to their scores where a simple tap in putt counts the same at that big drive. The more you spend on practicing on the putting green will pay off big to lower your score. That means you should have a routine plan to your putting practice. Give yourself a good half hour on the putting green before you go out to play a round.

I would be a good idea to take some time to spend only on the putting green even when you are not planning to play a round. On the putting green set up a row of golf balls from different angles from the hole. First remember to keep your eyes on the ball and after the putter hits the ball then look up to see where it went. Was there a slope to the hole so you could see where the break in the green. Now the next practice ball, adjust your stance or aim your club to compensate how the first ball rolled to the cup. After you have hit the row of balls you should be able to hole out most of them.

Now find a new angle to a different hole in the putting green and continue the same set up but be sure you keep your eyes on that ball. Miss hits are caused when you eyes move to watch the putter go back that can make your head turn and it will be a miss hit every time. Once that club hits the ball then the eyes can watch to see it roll to the hole. Watching the ball roll to the hole note if there was lots of break and the speed with which you stroked the ball. Now you know how to adjust your stroke on the next practice ball. Continue with this routine until you can hole most of your practice balls.

Look for different areas of the practice green from long to short putts by this method you will be able to read most of the greens on the course. Learning to read the greens and be able to see the breaks will make you a better golfer and keep down the three putt greens. Before you putt on any green and while other players are putting look over your own putt and get the line and where any breaks will be. As you wait on others use your time to good advantage and check the grass area in line where you want your ball to roll. All this practice will pay off to help you become a better putter and lower your score.
