Work Going On At Mill Creek

Work Going On At Mill Creek
As we the golfers keep playing golf the work to improve the Mill Creek Country Club is ongoing. I hear no complaints as we jockey around workmen in the fairway working on the sprinkler systems. On certain holes we have to hit over earth moving equipment to reach the golf hole. This is all part of golfing since the new owners are at work.

All the ravines and water ways on the golf course have been filled with deposited silt and rocks from the floods in 2009 and 2010. They are digging them fairly deep and each side is replaced with large slabs of limestone. It makes for a great improvement and a more challenging golf holes after they are finished plus a beautiful setting.

They are now working on what we now call Hole #7 which connects to our little par three hole that is now out of play. These holes have always been a challenge with the deep ravines that you have to hit over to get to the green. The little par three hole is a short high pop shots from the ladies tee of 86 yards all carry. I will be glad when this hole will be included in our full 18 holes probably sometime next year.

All this dirt and debris that is lifted from these ravines are being carried and dumped on the old #9 green of our last nine hole course. This green was greatly damaged by the last flood of 2010 and they are raising this green to make it less likely to be damaged in future flooding. That will make this closing hole a new challenge. It is challenging enough with a tree in the middle of the fairway and a long par four golf hole. It should make for a great closing hole as this hole is tree lined so straight shots are a must. The flood also took out the three sand traps that surrounded this green so will be interesting to see where the sand traps will be replaced.

Mill Creek Community Association is working on their plans to have their Neighborhood Night Out on the club house grounds on Tuesday October 8th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. We have scheduled a cover dish dinner so anyone can come and bring something for all to share. We had a great turn out last year so we expect the same this year. The Association will supply extra tables and chairs plus plates, cups, napkins and water for everyone who attends. This gives the community to become better acquainted with the new owners as they share their plans for the future of the Mill Creek Country Club.
