1602 - The Dutch East India Company was founded.

1987 - AZT the drug used to combat AIDS was approved by the FDA, the Food & Drug Administration.

Jack Barry the TV host of a variety of game shows including “The Joker’s Wild” was born in 1918.

Steve Borden a.k.a. Sting to wrestling fans was born in 1959.

Wendell Corey who appeared in “Rear Window” was born in 1914.

Holly Hunter the star of “Raising Arizona” and Oscar winner for “The Piano” was born in 1958.

William Hurt the Oscar winning actor for “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and star of “A History of Violence” and “Broadcast News” was born in 1950.

Henrik Ibsen the writer of “St. John’s Eve” and “The League of Youth” was born in 1828.

Kathy Ireland the model, actress and clothing entrepreneur was born in 1963.

Spike Lee the director of such notable films as “Do the Right Thing” and “Inside Man” was born in 1957.

Hal Linden the actor best known for his work on TV’s “Barney Miller” was born in 1931.

Ozzie Nelson the actor and star of “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” was born in 1906.

Carl Palmer the renowned drummer for the rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer was born in 1950.

Michael Redgrave who starred in the film “Goodbye Mr. Chips” was born in 1908.

Jerry Reed the actor/musician who starred in “Smokey & the Bandit” and “The Waterboy” was born in 1937.

Carl Reiner was born in 1922. Reiner directed a number of movies including “The Jerk” and also appeared on TV’s “The Dick Van Dyke Show” as well as the remake of “Ocean’s 11”.

Fred Rogers who will forever be known for TV’s “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood” was born in 1928.

We Said Goodbye To…

Conor Clapton son of legendary musician Eric Clapton and actress Lory Del Santo passed away in 1991 at the age of 4. His death was the inspiration behind Clapton’s song “Tears in Heaven”.

Lewis Grizzard the popular journalist and comedic commentator passed away in 1994 at the age of 47.

Chet Huntley the newscaster who was part of “The Huntley-Brinkley Report” passed away in 1974 at the age of 62.

Big John Studd the popular wrestler passed away in 1995 at the age of 47.
