Progesterone
Guest Author - Carolyn Chambers Clark, ARNP, EdD

Progesterone is one of the female sex hormones produced by the ovaries. Christiane Northrup, M.D., says that natural progresterone (a cream from wild yams; 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon to face, neck, inner arms, abdomen, inner thigs, or soles of feet daily for thirty days and then for two weeks each month thereafter, alternating sites where skin is softest), osteoporosis has been reversed in women as much as sixteen years past menopause. For this approach to be effective, you must...

Change your eating patterns

*stop eating a high-fat, high protein diet; limit red meat to lean cuts and eat it no more than three times a week; meat is high in phosphorus, as is soda, that extracts calcium from bones

*stop smoking---it poisons the ovaries and decreases production of all ovarian hormones

*stop excess alcohol intake---it increases risk of falling and adversely affects bone metabolism

*replace nutrients (plain low fat yogurt with live cultures or acidophylis)not absorbed due to antibiotic use

*eat sufficient vegetables (especially dark green ones like kale and collards and yellow and orange ones like squash and carrots), whole grains, nuts, turkey and fruits to provide the calcium, magnesium and other minerals you need; if you stop eating meat, your calcium requirements are lower, about 400 mg a day, according to the World Health Organization; 1 cup of cooked collard greens contains 300-400 mg of calcium

*complete weight bearing exercises for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week, including walking, biking, weight training, NordicTrack, dancing, and anything that puts weight on the bones

*take 2000 mg vitamin C a day to help with collagen production, the glue that holds bones and other tissues together
