Guest Author - Rain Battle

Popular acclaimed director Cameron Crowe ("Say Anything," "Vanilla Sky," "Almost Famous") wrote and directed this romantic dramedy about falling in love when you least expect it but need it most. Orlando Bloom ("Troy," "Kingdom of Heaven") is Drew, an advertising executive who has a major project to complete. Unfortunately, poor planning ruins the debut of a new product and Drew is fired for causing his company to lose millions of dollars.

Immediately after he is humiliated and fired, Drew's long-time girlfriend dumps him coldly and Drew is left alone and miserable. He decides to kill himself, but before he can, he recives more news: his father has died. Suddenly, he needs to return home to be with his family and make sure that his father's last wishes are honored properly.

Home is a small town in Kentucky, and Drew takes a red-eye flight home. As the only passenger, he recieves all of the attention of the sole flight attendant, Claire. She is perky and bubbly - everything that Drew is not in the mood for. Patiently she draws him out and soon finds out what's going on in his life. Claire begins a campaign to show Drew that his life isn't over. She pushes herself into his life as his would-be girlfriend, and although he is reluctant to accept her, he doesn't push her away. Claire's pushiness to convince Drew that they will fall in love is just the distraction that he needs as he renews his relationship with his family. He does begin to fall for Claire, and soon his world seems to have much more promise.

As mentioned in a previous article, I was excited to see this movie and I wasn't disappointed. I was expecting to be annoyed by Claire, the character with more energy than the infamous bunny, but she grows on you and you can't help but love what she does for Drew.

As with most Cameron Crowe films, the soundtrack is great (the "Vanilla Sky" soundtrack is still one of my all time faves). There are quite a few laugh out loud moments in the film, and Crowe really does a great job of showing just how easily someone's "perfect" life can fall apart.

NOTE: "Elizabethtown" is partly Cameron Crowe's true experience. When asked why he chose Orlando Bloom to play him, Crowe said that he loved the way Bloom conveyed so much emotion with just a single expression.
