Shark Tale

Shark Tale
Dreamsworks takes the street slang and a city strongly resembling New York and turns it into Shark Tale, an animated hip-hop/mob action/comedy film set under the sea, with Oscar (voiced by Will Smith) as a little fish with big dreams of fame and fortune. And, those dreams seem to be very far off for a mouth scrubber in a whale wash. Oscar is so caught up in his dreams that he doesn't even notice that Angie (voiced by Renee Zellwegger), the pretty receptionist, is in love with him. To top things off, he has neglected to keep track of the amount of money that he has borrowed from his blowfish boss, Sykes (voiced by Martin Scorese). But, Oscar is suddenly reminded of his debt when Sykes tells him that he must pay back the $5000 owed by the following day. Who does Oscar turn to? No other than Angie. She gives Oscar her family heirloom pearl to sell in order to give Sykes back his money. Unfortunately, Oscar gets a little sidetracked on his way to Sykes by a racetrack where he bets on a horse, or should I say, a seahorse. Of course with Oscar's luck, he loses the money and troubes comes after him as Sykes' henchmen (voiced by Doug E. Doug and Ziggy Marley) take Oscar out to rough him up.

Along the way they come across two sharks, a tough guy named Frankie (voiced by Michael Imperioli) and his sweet-natured vegetarian brother named Lenny (voiced by Jack Black). It's Frankie's job to show Lenny how to be a killer so that they may be able to take over the family business from their family Don Lino (voiced by Robert DeNiro). However, when Frankie is hit by an anchor, the jellyfish think that Oscar has killed him, naming him "The Shark Slayer." Oscar's dreams of fame and fortune has come at last.

Now, Sykes becomes Oscar's manager and a flirtaous glamourpuss by the name of Lola (voiced by Angelina Jolie) shows up to literally share Oscar's wealth. Everythine is great for Oscar until the sharks show up searching for "The Shark Slayer." Unable to become the predator that his father wishes him to become, Lenny runs away from home. Lenny and Oscar scheme up a plan to solve both of their problems - they stage a fight and Oscar pretends to kill Lenny. They figure that this way the the sharks will be too scared to come after Oscar and Lenny can start a new life. But Lenny and Oscar find out that their plan isn't very effective.

Shark Tale has broke box office records for its October release, taking home an amazing $50 million as it reached 1st spot. A sequel is currently in the works, but will not be released until 2006.
