Golf For Women review 2008 Drivers

Golf For Women review 2008 Drivers
In the recent Golf For Women magazine they had a feature called 2008 Spring Equipment preview. It started off with the following statement by Stina Sernberg and Ashley Mayo who wrote the article. “Want to hit the ball higher, farther and closer to the hole? We thought so. The most advanced clubs ever for women are here to help.” They used eleven GFW’s 2008 player panel golfers with handicaps from 3 – 32 to give their comment on the clubs they presented here. The first suggestion on how to lower your handicap was to get fitted for your driver. They stressed that this would be a very important step to get your driver to fit your swing and tempo. This is one thing that I really want to do as we have Golfsmith in Austin and you can be fitted at this place.

The first set of reviews were for the drivers featured with eight companies with type of driver, price, description and players comment.

Callaway Hyper X was listed first with a loft from 9 to 11. They describe this driver that has the largest effective hitting area of all titanium drivers and has a classic look. Player comment stated that this club hits the ball nice and high and easy to line up. The ball really pops off the face. Priced at $375.00

Cleveland Hibore XLS with loft from 8.5 – 11.5 this model features a clubface that is 17% larger than previous model. They say it is more forgiving of off center shots and for faster swinging women only. Comment: Shots felt amazing with this driver, easy to launch it high and straight. Price $299.00

Cobra Speed LD with loft to 18.5 this model is an offset club head that helps prevent slicing and will launch the ball higher. Comment: They found this club nice and light with the offset head allows you to stop worrying about timing at impact. Price $375.00

Mizuno MX-560 with loft from 8.5 – 12 as this is Mizuno’s most forgiving driver and has a shallow head shape increases the clubs resistance to twisting for high ball speed and added distance. Comment: Club has a large sweet spot, feels light. Price $360.00

Nicklaus 460 DP with loft from 8- 13 this model has a triangular shape and able to work the ball from right to left. Comment: The odd shape take getting used to, but it is hard to hit a slice with this club. Price $299.00

Nike SQ Sumo 5900 is the latest version of the square shaped Sumo makes it very stable on off center hits. The “powerbow” weighting ring on the back helps create more height and distance. Comment: The light weight and height loft makes it an ideal club for slower swingers. Price $479.00

Ping Rhapsody with loft from 12-16 is the most women friendly driver in Ping history. Is ultra light, flexible shaft which help with club head speed. The wide club head instills confidence. Comment: It is light weight and easy to swing, Very forgiving and has a great look. Price $300.00

Tour Edge Bazooka Geomax with lofts from 9 – 16 as the name suggests the driver pushes geometrical design to the limits for being wide as it is long, extremely stable on off center hits. Comment: It feels light and very easy to hit. Says you don’t have to do much to hit is solid. Price $199.00

There you have it on the Drivers for 2008 they also included irons, hybrids and putters in this article so will cover those in another review. I still like my driver the Callaway Great Big Bertha II that is four years old. This winter I had to banish it to the garage for a time until it got its’act together. That is when I started thinking about getting a driver that was fitted to my swing. The driver has returned to my bag and it works most of the time as long as I keep practicing on the driving range.
