Texas Senior Ladies Golf Association

Texas Senior Ladies Golf Association
Our Mill creek Golf Club hosted a tournament sponsored by the Texas Senior Ladies Golf Association on Wednesday and Thursday April 2 and 3. They also had practice rounds on Tuesday so it was three full days of Senior Lady Golfer’s testing our course. I did not choose to participate as it was held the same day as our Ladies regular golf day. Since it was the first Wednesday of the month and being President of our ladies group we had to hold our monthly board meeting the day they were playing their first round.

They had 107 women golfers so it was mass confusion for a while until they all got checked in. We had two of our own club members who played in this event and one who turned 84 as her birthday was on the second day of play. I did offer to help the club early each morning to carry bags when the golfers arrived and place them on the proper cart. Another job also was to help shuttle the players back and forth to the driving range.

This was a shot gun start and handicap play with flights set up according to their handicap. Our regular ladies schedule did play on Wednesday as we have a 27 hole golf course and we played our third nine twice for our 18 holes. It does help when we have a large group playing in a tournament as it doesn’t hurt the flow of members who want to play golf. The weather turned out very nice as this is our rainy season and you have to take your chances on big events like this. With a 107 extra golfers is means lots of planning and arranging golf carts with proper cards indicating each golfers place.

On the second day I noticed that several ladies withdrew for one reason or another. Our two girls were still playing except they said they both run into trouble on a few holes. That is par for this course as we have several holes that can cause lots of problems. My friend said there was one gal older than she but she won by having the better score.

There was a dinner and award giving out at our Creekside Dinning room. I could not check out the winners as they took down the score sheets to work on the winners of each flight. We hope they all had a good time and will want to return another time. I was told that this Texas Senior Ladies Association has two tournaments a year. The next one will be in Huntsville, Texas later on in September.
