Waiting for “Serenity” The long-awaited feature film version of “Firefly” is due in theaters September 30. Now you can visit the official Web site of “Serenity” online here: WWW.SERENITYMOVIE.COM The site features an amazing trailer as well as storyline information, downloads and an online community. It’s a bit spare at the moment, but as the opening date approaches we hope to see much more about one of the best SciFi TV shows to hit the airwaves in ages. In case you’re not versed in “Firefly” lore, it’s the gritty tale (over about 14 episodes) about hardened spaceship captain Mal Reynolds, who fought on the losing side of the Galactic civil war. Now he ekes out a living taking aboard passengers and pulling off small-time crimes with the help of his motley but loyal crew. The film version, which is set six months after the end of the TV series timeline, will focus on the young doctor and his telepathic sister who were taken aboard during the pilot episode. The Universal Alliance, who pretty much run the galaxy, wants the girl and will stop at nothing to take her back. This means that Mal and his crew end up with a much higher profile than they’d like as they try to also avoid the savagery of the Reavers, who patrol the outer reaches of space and who happen to be cannibals. This plot has always been the over-arching storyline of the series, though before the show was canceled by Fox director Joss Whedon wasn’t able to conclude his vision. Hopefully he’ll now be able to do so. Now that the trailer is available, we’re starting to get excited about the film! For more information on the series, which is available in its entirety on DVD, check out our episode guide right here in this section.
