Budweiser Select doesn't bill itself as a diet beer at all. It simply says it's a quality beer. I was really surprised to find that it DOES taste pretty much exactly like Budweiser.
The beer is light and golden colored, the foam is thick. That is nice, but beer drinkers normally care about is taste and how rich the flavor is. The Bud Select really did well in a number of normal eating situations. I found the bar typical beer-and-peanuts to be quite a tasty combination. With Italian food, the beer held its own, where other light beers might normally get overwhelmed.
What's equally impressive about the beer is its carb count. A small nutrition label on the back of the bottle lets you know what that is - the rest of the bottle and packaging does not mention it at all. It's a super low 3.1g of carbs - far lower than most other beer selections. That's 99 calories, 0.7g protein, and 0g of fat. No matter what type of healthy living / diet you choose, those are good numbers.
I should caveat in here that some people simply don't like the Budweiser / lager style of beer. That's fine, there are many styles of beer in the world to suit many types of beer drinkers. For those who enjoy a Budweiser style of beer, you're really going to be impressed with what Budweiser Select delivers. If this is an indication of what low carb / low calorie beers are moving towards, then this is a great sign!
I've been reviewing Budweiser Select for ten years now. Its flavor and counts have remained stable, which is a good sign.
Budweiser also offers a Budweiser Select 55 which has - you guessed it - 55 calories. That's even lower than the 99 calorie version! If you're into Budweiser products and trying to lose weight, be sure to check out my review on the Budweiser Select 55 product.
