Hidden Valley Spicy Ranch Dressing
First, the basics. Ranch dressing is in essence egg, oil, water, and some flavoring. The primary ingredients in this are soybean oil, water, egg yolk. It's a straightforward dressing style which adds moisture and some flavor to whatever style of salad you eat.
With the spicy ranch, they're taking it a step further. The color is orangish rather than more of a white. They have red bell pepper, cayenne pepper and paprika on the ingredient list. If you're not a fan of hot stuff, don't worry. They didn't overload the dressing. It's enough to have your tongue tingle gently, but they're not out to have you breathe flames.
Not all salads would work well with this. If you're having a gentle springtime salad, you'd probably want a gentle, mild dressing. But on the other hand, I have a lot of salads that really benefit from this spice treatment. If I'm having a nice, strong wine for example, the Spicy Ranch holds its own and makes the meal a special treat.
Here's the other nutrition information: 150 calories, 2g saturated fat, 0g trans fat. 10mg cholesterol, 320mg sodium, 2g of carbs, 0g of protein, No vitamins.
My complaint as always with salad dressings is they give you stats for 2 tablespoons of serving. I have BIG salads for dinner (it's my whole dinner) and I definitely use more than 2 tablespoons on my salad. Still, I understand they have to make a guesstimate of what people are having as a "typical salad" and have to start somewhere. Just be aware if you're having a bigger salad that you have to adjust the statistics accordingly.
I am a strong proponent of eating at least one salad a day. If you keep doing the exact same salad with the exact same dressing you're likely to get bored. By having the Spicy Ranch in your arsenal, you can guarantee that sometimes your salads are quiet, and at other times they have a kick. That's good to keep your taste buds entertained and your salad intake continuing!
