Cranberries are very healthy for you and are naturally low in sugar. They are a traditional part of many meals, and were much enjoyed by native americans and colonists in the US.
Here is a great sugar-free cranberry sauce recipe!
Thanks goes to Mary Ellen, our Container Gardening Editor for supplying this recipe. I highly recommend that every low carber have a container garden, to help them get very cheap veggies into their diet quite easily!!
12 oz. fresh cranberries, rinsed
1 cup Splenda
1 cup water
1 teaspoon each orange zest
cinnamon
nutmeg
Bring water, Splenda and spices to a boil, add cranberries and bring to boil again, reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, until the water has reduced somewhat.
It won't be as thick as if it were made with sugar, but it's a very small price to pay and it's delicious.
Ah, it's good enough to use as an appy, just pour some over a block of cream cheese and put it on a pretty plate with crudite. It's real party food, very festive.
