Dream Symbols - Gift
Guest Author - Parthena Black

Gifts symbolize sentiment and exchange. In our dreams, they rarely represent material things. Instead, gifts in dreams symbolize decisions, events, wisdom, feelings and relationships.

Whether you are the giver or receiver, take a look at how the gift is wrapped or packaged. The colors of the ribbons and bows may have significance. For example, a big black bow may say "beware" while a red one could say "love" or "danger"! An unwrapped gift represents a clear, honest message or action. An elaborately wrapped gift suggests something that may need to be carefully delivered with tact or diplomacy or is being disguised. Do you have something to say that needs to be handled in a delicate manner? Is someone offering you something that doesn't feel quite right? Should you beware of "false" gifts? Is something or someone more attractive on the outside than on the inside?

When the dreamer is the giver, there may be a desire to be more generous to others in waking life. Have you felt guilty about being self-absorbed or self-centered lately? Perhaps you are overloaded with work or other responsibilities and this is stealing time and focus from your important relationships. Giving a gift may also mean that you are ready to make a choice or decision.

Receiving gifts can be a symbol of your self-esteem or how you feel that others regard you. For instance, receiving many or very special gifts indicate that you feel loved and valued. Receiving an unwanted gift or no gift at all when you expected one can indicate feelings of unappreciation. Receiving a gift can also indicate that a new opportunity is coming your way. Returning or exchanging a gift may mean that you are not ready to accept an opportunity or situation.

The content of the gift is also significant. For instance, receiving a religious symbol would point to a spiritual gift while a tool or ticket could mean a new job or business opportunity. A gift related to a question you may have could symbolize the wisdom you've been seeking - or avoiding. A brand new car could represent identity and freedom - or that Mercedes you've been drooling over! Look up these symbols as well to determine the meaning of your dream.

May Santa leave many good gifts under your tree, and may all your dreams come true!
