And now for another round of the latest miscarriage-related news. Next article I plan to finally review Jon Cohen's Coming to Term, which I found to be one of the most interesting miscarriage books I've read in a good while.
The biggest miscarriage-related news headline I've seen over the past two months has been yet another study linking stress with early miscarriages. This is not the first time a study has linked the two. The sample size was fairly small, and it was limited in its scope, but the researchers are calling for more studies on a wider scale. This is probably a good idea. I hate the idea that the two could even be linked because it may make more women blame themselves for their losses, but it's good to know. I think that in the meantime for any readers that are trying to conceive, which is stressful in and of itself, it's probably a good idea to take some time every day for yourself to focus on relaxation. It certainly can't hurt!
The second biggest news headline I've seen recently, which relates to the above, is the scandal of a Chinese undocumented immigrant who suffered a miscarriage after almost being deported. Zhenxing Jiang miscarried twins when immigration officials forcefully brought her to an airport and ignored her distress. This story is sad any way you look at it, and I'm not sure what more can be said about it.
Good news for Japanese miscarriage patients comes in that Japan's Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology has agreed to offer pre-implantation genetic diagnosis for recurrent miscarriage patients. I think PGD is a wonderful example of how far medical science has come, offering the ability to screen IVF eggs for terminal defects. Unfortunately so many other areas of miscarriage science are still severely lacking.
And speaking of severely lacking...I wasn't sure what to make of this response that I found during my Google searches. A columnist replies to a married woman who longs for a third child and has a reluctant husband. The columnist obviously has no clue what it's like to miscarry when you desperately want a baby. Boo to her for publishing this response.
