The Break Up

The Break Up
Directed by Peyton Reed who directed the popular cheerleader comedy "Bring It On," "The Break Up" is the story of a couple determined to force the other out of the home they once shared.

Jennifer Aniston ("Friends with Money") is Brooke Meyers, a headstrong woman who is at her wit's end with how to deal with her long-time boyfriend, Gary. After two years of sweet kisses, snuggling on the couch, and what felt like true love, Brooke now can't stand the sight of him. She's fed up with his laziness and patronizing attitude towards her, so finally she breaks up with him.

Vince Vaughn ("Wedding Crashers") is Gary, a laid back guy who's equally tired of Brooke. He's sick of her constant nagging, her pickiness, and her unwillingless to compromise. He's relieved when she breaks up with him, telling his best friend that he feels like he's on a "man-cation."

Although they agree that it's time to break-up, Brooke and Gary don't agree on what to do with their shared condo. Friends and family have plenty to say, but Brooke and Gary can't seem to reach an agreement. They each consider the condo theirs and want to stay. Eventually, they call a mediator, but that doesn't help. Finally, a war begins, with each of them using emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical tactics to get the other to leave.

Somewhere in the midst of hurling insults and trying to make the other jealous, Brooke and Gary realize that if they'd spent half as much energy on their relationship, they might still be together. Do they still have the energy to invest in giving love another try?

The film also stars Joey Lauren Adams as Brooke's oversexed sister Addie. Adams starred in one of my favorite romance movies, cult classic "Chasing Amy." Also starring are original sexpot Ann-Margret, who starred in Mike Nichols' 70s classic "Carnal Knowledge," as Brooke's mom, and John Michael Higgins, who has a recurring role on the TV series "Arrested Development" as Brooke's effeminate brother Richard.

Extra! Extra! Tidbits About the Movie
Small World: Jon Favreau, who stars in this film as Gary's best friend Johnny O, is Vince Vaughn's real life buddy. Favreau also had a recurring role on "Friends" which starred Jennifer Anniston, as Monica's boyfriend Pete Becker.
