The Lake House
Guest Author - Rain Battle

This love story is a fascinating tale of following your heart wherever it leads you, even through time. Kate Forster is a young doctor who already feels a little burned out. Although she is ready to change her life, including moving to a new city, she knows that she’ll miss her beautiful home. The house she was renting was airy and beautiful, sitting solitarily on a lake. She even says to a friend that she never felt anything like she did when living in the house.

On a cold winter’s day as Kate prepares to leave, she decides on a whim, to leave a note for the house’s next resident. In her brief note, she mentions several details about the house that the new occupant doesn’t see. The house is also well appreciated by Alex Wyler, a local who has a sentimental attachment to the house. Alex’s father built the house, which when Alex sees it, has fallen into disrepair. He begins a pet project, planning to fully restore the house and live in it himself. When he receives Kate’s note, Alex is confused. The details that she mentioned haven’t been added to the house yet. After several exchanges, the two realize that they are at the exact same house, in completely different times.

Over the next few weeks, Alex and Kate realize that they are somehow living two years apart. Although their circumstances are bizarre, they continue to exchange letters, and over time they even begin to love one another. Desperately, they try to figure out some way to meet in person without breaking their mysterious connection.

“The Lake House” is based on the beautiful Korean love story, "Siworae," directed by Hyun-seung Lee. The story itself is based on a best-selling novel by David Auburn who also wrote the play and screenplay for 2005’s “Proof.” Keanu Reeves ("A Scanner Darkly," "Constantine") and Sandra Bullock ("Crash," "Miss Congeniality"), star together for the first time since pairing up in the film “Speed.” Shohreh Aghdashloo ("American Dreamz," "The Exorcism of Emily Rose") and Christopher Plummer ("Inside Man") also star. The film was directed by Alejandro Agresti who recently directed “Un Mundo Menos Peor“ (“A Less Bad World“).
