The Fountain
Director Darren Aronofsky, the briliant mind behind "Pi" and one of my favorite films "Requiem for a Dream", is finally able to show off his multi-million dollar pet project of the last 2 years. Starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz as lovers whose devotion spans centuries, the film is already garnering more press than many current relases.

"Every shadow, no matter how deep, is threatened by morning light."
In 1500 A.D. Tomas, a Spainish conquistador, is a man obsessed with finding the revered Tree of Life. This famed tree holds the ultimate secret of life - freedom from death. Rather than encouraging his determination, the country fears the knowledge he holds and he is condemned as a sinner and heretic. With a ring, Tomas makes a promise to beautiful Isabel, who is royalty, when he discovers the secret to eternal life, he will somehow return to her and they will live together forever.

"Don't worry we're almost there, you will be reborn..."
In the year 2000, Izzi and Tommy are young and in love. Tommy is a promising scientist who is intrigued with the idea of discovering the key to the secret of life. He believes that death is only a mystery that needs to be researched like a puzzle solved and he devotes his life to his work. When his wife is diagnosed with a terminal cancer, Tommy doubles his efforts to finding a solution to death in the hopes of saving her. He fights for her, promising that if he doesn't find a way to save her in thislife, he will find one in the next.

"You pull me through time."
Five hundred years into the future, Tom is an explorer and fascinated by space travel. As an astronaut, Tom believes that he has discovered the secret to eternal life that has eluded him for so long. Now he must find a way to use this knowledge to give the gift of freedom from death to his beloved Izzi and fufill a promise he made to her in another lifetime.

Hugh Jackman is best known in the US for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men films, but the versatile actor has also starred in "Kate & Leopold" and was the voice of Roddy in Disney's "Flushed Away". One of my favorite British actresses, Rachel Weisz has been in a large number of films most recently starring in "The Constant Gardener" and "Constantine." Also starring are Ellen Burstyn, who also starred (brilliantly) in Aronofsky's "Requiem for a Dream", Mark Margolis, and Sean Patrick Thomas, two other actors I really enjoy watching.
