Covered By God's Feathers

“ He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge” Psalm 91:4

A few years ago,two young men were involved in an accident which claimed the life of one and left the other charged with Vehicular Manslaughter. These guys were best of friends. They did almost everything together. Now one of them is dead.

And with the tragedy of September 11, we think of all the people who died in the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon and on each of the airplanes that crashed. We remember those that died and those that survived and ask why again.

I know some people who won’t ever be the same because in their young lives there has been too much tragedy. First with Columbine and September 11, I think back on the Vietnam War and remember the face of my mother every night when the news would come on. That tragic, broken look. Terror over the anticipated bad news of how many young men had died that day. I remember hearing the question when will it all be over? I see the fear in young soldiers faces when the idea of war with Iraq is discussed.

Have we not seen enough in our lifetimes? How much more will there be? Where can we find peace and comfort? Remember in the early 70’s when we as little children heard the concept of World Peace? Is there ever going to be such a thing?

The Bible tells us that basically things are going to get worse before they get better. We are to trust in God’s plan and not be led astray by the things that happen in this world. Little chicks go running under the wings of the mother hen when they are frightened. When things get bad we can remember that we are covered by God’s feathers. His wings will be our refuge. We can run and hide under Him when we get scared. We don’t need to handle everything ourselves. We can turn to our Father in heaven and trust that He will protect us. He will gather His own under His wings and hold us close.
