Belles 'n Babes Golf Event

Our Ladies Golf Association Tournament chairman and our regular play day chairman came up with a different and challenging golfing event. It was their desire to get older members to invite a newer member to be their partner or the reverse a newer member to ask an older for a golfing event. We have had a large number of women joining our LGA group in the past four years that this was a way of getting the two groups together. We had 15 partners signed up and played this event at 9:30 a.m. after a regular board meeting on Wednesday.

A salad luncheon was served at the home of one of our older members and ladies were asked to sign up for either a salad, bread, drink or dessert and had a good time getting to know each other better with a fun game of golf. Women get involved with a certain group they have been playing with for years that it does not give them time to meet new members. They hope events like this will create a more congenial environment with less friction so we wish them good luck.

The event went off just fine, with registration for those who attended at a fee of $10.00 each. Our board meeting was well attended and several things were brought up for discussion and voting on. Our regular playday fees for each day’s game would be dispersed that day instead of accumulating points over the year. After all business was discussed the Tournament Chairman announced the pairings and rules. She handed out our score cards which were clearly marked as to what hole each foursome would start.

It was a beautiful clear and calm day I had invited a gal who had just recently moved to a city close by and still belongs to our club. She had been undergoing radiation for breast cancer and is on the mend and enjoyed playing golf and being with old friends. The game was handicap only and our score cards were so marked. This makes for a very challenging game as all golfers can participate and win.

Once we finished our 18 holes we met in the home of one of our members and everybody contributed to salads, breads and desserts. Two of our members brought wine and one member had a birthday that day and brought champagne. We all had a chance to visit and enjoy some good food and fellowship. If your golf group needs a mixer try this type of tournament to greet new members and make them feel welcome.

The pictures show some of our group at the luncheon after a fun time in the sun for this golfing event. Please note the champagne bottles that was appreciated by many and that last pictures was my table. It was a great day.
