About Quartz Crystals
Guest Author - Kim DeLeary

Crystals are a natural rock that continues to fascinate humanity. Colorful crystals have been carved and used since pre-historic times. Quartz crystals have long had associations with occult beliefs.

Crystals have two basic forms that give them their characteristic sparkle. The two main forms of crystalline structures include the cubic and the prismatic forms. In the cubic form are the cubic, dodecahedral, and octahedral shapes. In the prismatic forms are the pyramidal forms, which can be hexagonal as well. The most precious gemstones are amethyst, diamond, emeralds, ruby and sapphire. Gemstones gain their colors through impurities from other minerals and metals.

Traces of gold can sometimes be found in quartz crystal. Quartz crystals come in a variety of colors including purple, pink, orange, blue, red, black, yellow, green and even multicolor rocks. The color of quartz can be changed by applying heat to it. Quartz crystals can be cut to be virtually indistinguishable from diamonds except by jewelers and gemstone cutters.

A great variety of gemstones have been found carved and used as talismans, jewelry, funerary and ritual carvings since the stone ages. Carnelian, agate, beryl, malachite, aquamarine, garnet, emerald and diamond are some of the gemstones that have been used since prehistoric times.

Archaeological expeditions have discovered gemstones in old burial sites around the world. Ancient crystal skulls are one of the more sensational gemstone finds that have been found in Mesoamerica. Quartz crystal and beryl were among the earliest gemstones that have been used by humankind. Quartz crystal has also been found to be carved, made into jewelry and cut into tools like knives and lance heads. Quartz crystals have been found in ancient tombs around the world.

Many different cultures are aware of quartz crystals and have created their own beliefs about their occult use. Magical and healing properties have been attributed to gemstones since ancient times. One prevalent belief about quartz crystals is that it can record information that can be then tapped into through the use of psychic abilities. It is also thought to amplify psychic abilities and has been widely used for divination purposes.

Quartz crystals can be found and mined from around the world. Quartz crystals continue to be used for occult purposes including redirecting energy, divination, meditation focus, magic, amplifying psychic energy and healing. Quartz crystals continue to be used for occult purposes in many ways and continue to be one of most popular gemstones today.
