Bottle Popping Poltergeist in Long Island  If you were watching or listening to the news in early February 1958, you might remember the story of a poltergeist called Popper invading a home in the Long Island suburb of Seaford, New York. This was the first time a haunting was shown on television, and Popper didn’t fail to entertain! Caseyville, Illinois Haunted House  A lovely two-story house on a hill near woods, surrounded by flowers, in a little Midwestern town outside of St. Louis was once the site of secret ceremonies to conjure demons. Celebrity Ghost Stories on Bio  Shirley Jones is one of the most experienced and talented actors to grace the screen. Years ago, when Shirley was married to Jack Cassidy, they lived in a haunted summer house. Christmas at Haunted Sandringham  The Norfolk retreat of the Royal family, considered one of the most haunted royal homes, has been the private home of British monarchs since 1862. Several days before Christmas, the Queen will leave Buckingham Palace and spend six weeks at Sandringham House. Clarendon Hills’ Country House Restaurant  Without a doubt, my next train trip to Chicago will include a visit just west of the city, to the Country House, for a burger and a Bloody Mary. Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee, Arizona  The Copper Queen Hotel is said to be haunted by several ghosts. The most intriguing is that of a lady probably in her early thirties, Julia Lowell. She is said to have committed suicide in the hotel after being spurned by the man she loved. Crash of Flight 401  The crash of Eastern Flight 401 in the Florida Everglades on December 29, 1972, and the subsequent paranormal activity reported on Eastern planes fitted with salvaged parts from the downed plane. Dark Spectre in the Cemetery  Several years ago, my dog and I were on our nightly walk through the cemetery near our home. Ghosts of Haw Branch Plantation  A few months later, Cary was sitting in the library reading when he glanced up at the portrait and noticed that a charcoal rose was turning pink! When he walked to the picture, he saw that the girl’s dark hair was lightening, and her gray skin was starting to take on a peach tone! Ghosts of Pere Marquette Park  It is only recently that I learned of some ghostly tales regarding the beautiful lodge at Pere Marquette State Park, originally called the Piasa Bluffs State Park, outside of Grafton. Granny Dollar and Buster  A story of a special "Granny" and her best friend, Buster, who remains loyal to his mistress well over a century after his death. Hannibal’s “Haunted” Rockcliffe Mansion  Rockcliffe Mansion is an enormous house located in Hannibal, Missouri,built by lumber baron, John J. Cruikshank for his second wife, Annie, and their daughters. The family lived in the mansion until John’s death in 1924. Many believe that John J. Cruikshank still resides at Rockcliffe Mansion. Haunted Amityville Horror continues  In 2005, a remake of The Amityville Horror starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George was released. Melissa George played the character of Kathy Lutz.

Haunted Baker Hotel  The Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas, is full of spirits on most of its fourteen floors. A psychic in the area claims that many of the spirits at the Baker Hotel returned there because they had enjoyed themselves so much while visiting the resort in their lifetime. Haunted Banff Springs Hotel  Unfortunately, beauty does not guarantee prevention against ghosts and spirits appearing, and more often tends to be a magnet of the paranormal.
Haunted Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables  A tale of opulence, gambling, murder, and, of course, a ghost or two in the luxurious Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. Haunted Clifton Hall in Nottingham  Clifton Hall in Nottingham made national news in 2008 when it was repossessed by the bank. The family who owned the mansion claimed that it was haunted and they had moved out and stopped making payments. Even the paranormal group called in to help were frightened of their experiences. Haunted Coe College  Coe College founded in 1851 is haunted by the spirit of a young woman who succumbed to the influenza epidemic of 1918. Haunted Crescent Hotel  The Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is a great place to enjoy yourself, learn about local history, and take a ghost tour. The possibility of meeting a ghost during your stay is very likely! Haunted Deane House in Heritage Park  I first heard about this haunted house in Heritage Park Historical Village, Calgary, Alberta, Canada on an episode of Celebrity Hauntings on the Biography Channel. Actor Drake Bell talked about his experience there while working on a movie with John Cusack. Haunted Farnsworth House Inn  The Farnsworth House is a Gettysburg inn, and considered by many (including the Travel Channel) to be full of spirits. At one time, the house sheltered Confederate sharpshooters, and actually has more than 100 holes in the brick walls from Union soldiers. Haunted Fleece Inn in Bretforton  The Fleece Inn is located in the small farming village of Bretforton in Worcestershire, England. Built early in the 15th century, and seriously damaged by fire in 2004, it was restored with the original "witch circles" and witch marks." Haunted Garden House Bed and Breakfast  In 2006, representatives from NBC’s Today Show contacted the Garden House Bed and Breakfast in Hannibal, Missouri, to film a documentary that October. After filming the segment, The Today Show listed the Garden House as one of the top ten places in America to sleep with a ghost.
Haunted Ghost Town in Colorado  Deep in the Colorado Rockies, the ghost town of St. Elmo is well-preserved, and haunted by the spirit of a lady who spent many years of her life watching over the little town. Haunted Goldfield Hotel, Nevada  One of the most fascinating activities that I enjoyed while living in the desert years ago was ghost town hunting. Wonderful treasures could be found. Sometimes even real ghosts could be seen in the towns that were often in the middle of nowhere and seemingly devoid of any type of souls. Haunted Hawkeyes in Iowa City  University of Iowa Hawkeyes team members lived in a house close to the university where paranormal activity was a regular occurrence. Haunted Hemingway House  After the prominent author’s suicide in the summer of 1961, his ghost has been seen often at his Key West home and at Sloppy Joe’s Bar in the area, which was known to be a favorite “haunt” of Hemingway. Haunted Horsemen on New Year’s Eve  Each New Year’s Eve, the apparition of a ghost and carriage pulls up into the driveway. Haunted Kimo Theater in Albuquerque  Six year old Bobby Darnall died tragically decades ago in the gorgeous Kimo Theater in Albuquerque...and the youngster is still there! Haunted Kingsley Plantation  Near the old house, on a long, dark, twisty road are the ruins of several small slave quarters where an entity called “Old Red Eyes” is sometimes glimpsed. Haunted Lake Club in Illinois  The Lake Club in Springfield, Illinois, was haunted by a bartender named Rudy who just needed a little help getting to the other side. Haunted Loud Palace Recording Studio  Many of the bands stayed overnight at the studio while working with Massy. Although Massy never witnessed any paranormal activity, many of the overnight guests did experience unusual occurrences. Haunted Luna Mansion  A few miles south of Albuquerque, off of Highway I-25, is the small town of Los Lunas, New Mexico. West of the Highway 314 and Highway 6 crossing, is the lovely mansion called Luna Mansion. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the ghosts are usually friendly! Haunted Mansion in Kansas City  The Strawberry Hill Mansion Museum was built in 1887. Several apparitions have manifested at the mansion including a male spirit who doesn’t like visitors, “The Lady in Red” believed to be the ghost of a homeless woman who died during an abortion, and several others. Haunted Maple Dale Farm  Initially, it was the family cat that, upon entering the house for the first time, ran up into the attic and refused to come down. Each and every morning, the cat’s water dish was found to be moved up two steps… by no one in the household. Not long after, the cat passed away. Haunted Museum of the Mummies  The Museum of the Mummies in Guanajuato, Mexico is an unusual and unique exhibition of mummified bodies. As if the horror of seeing dead baby corpses isn't enough . . . the place is haunted too! Haunted Oriental Theater in Chicago  Do ghosts of woman and children who perished in the devastating Chicago Iroquois Theater fire in 1903 haunt performances at the theater to this day? Haunted Owl’s Head Lighthouse  An old sea captain and a "little lady" are said to haunt the Owl´s Head Lighthouse at Rockland Harbor, Maine. Haunted Places I Visited in Arizona  On my vacation last week, I visited several haunted locations in Arizona. Here is my account of the Jerome Grand Hotel, and the Red Garter Bed & Bakery in Williams. Haunted Raggedy Annabelle  According to the nurses, Donna Jennings and Angie Stapleton, and Angie’s boyfriend, Lou Carlo, the paranormal activity seemed to center around a big Raggedy Ann doll the size of a small child. Haunted Roadhouse of Beverly Glen  The neighborhood of Beverly Glen is located north of Sunset Boulevard and south of Mulholland Drive. At the address of 1508 N. Beverly Glen was once a three-story building called the Old Roadhouse.
Built in 1915, a lover’s triangle and a ghastly murder occurred, resulting in a double haunting. Haunted Rose Hall, Montego Bay  One would think a sugar plantation on the gorgeous island of Jamaica would be one of the more delightful places to visit . . . perhaps not, if the spirit of the notoriously evil Annie Palmer is still in residence . . . and from all accounts, she appears to be!
Haunted Shrieve House  The Shrieve House at 40 sheep Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire is said to be haunted by many ghosts. The award-winning Fallstaffs Experience Museum located in the Shrieves House barn at the back of the house even gives ghost tours of the property. Haunted St. James Hotel in Cimarron  The St. James Hotel in Cimarron, New Mexico has provided rest and sustenance for many noted individuals during the days of the wild west. A very violent place, many of those gun-downed at St. James are still there today! Haunted Stone Lion Inn in Guthrie, Oklahoma  Reports of footsteps, laughter, pats on the face from little hands, and other supernatural occurrences are often reported at the Stone Lion Inn in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Haunted Sunnyvale Toys ‘R’ Us  Thirty miles south of San Francisco, on the site of what was once a beautiful apple orchard and immense ranch owned by Martin Murphy Jr. in the late 1800´s, setting amidst concrete and asphalt, is a haunted Toys ‘R’ Us store.
Haunted USS Hornet  Built in 1942 to 1943 and launched from Newport News, Virginia, the USS Hornet became one of the most highly decorated ships in WWII, “amassing an unequalled combat record.” Today, the USS Hornet is thought by many to be “the most haunted ship in history.” Haunted Villa Paula of Miami  Cliff Ensor was the first resident of Villa Paula to report strange happenings. All of his senses were assaulted with ghostly stimuli. Ensor would often hear high heels walking on the stone walkway. He also heard a piano playing. Many times knocking was heard at the door, only to find no one there. Haunted Villisca Ax Murder House  Mary had no inkling that the entire Moore household had been brutally murdered during the night. The six members of the family, and the two Stillinger girls spending the night, were all lying dead inside the house next door, in the little town of Villisca, located in southwestern Iowa. Haunted Willow Creek Farm  The private resident of Willow Creek Farm, considered by many investigators to be one of the most active sites in Illinois, is now known as 25516 Spring Valley Road, in Cherry Grove Township, located in rural northwestern Illinois. The property is available for weekend tours and investigations. Hoof Prints of Bath, NC  Many believe Jesse was taken to hell for his wild ways by the stranger on the dark horse. Jerome Grand Hotel, Arizona  In the year 1935, the dead body of a maintenance man by the name of Claude M. Harvey was found at the bottom of an elevator shaft in the United Verde Hospital in Jerome, Arizona. John Wayne’s Haunted Wild Goose  A few weeks after John Wayne’s death, Hutchins discovered he was sharing The Wild Goose with the deceased actor. Julia Staab and La Posada  Spirits and ghosts abound in the downtown area of enchanting Santa Fe, New Mexico. One of the loveliest inns in the area is the historic La Posada Resort and Spa Hotel, which is said to be haunted by the beautiful Julia Schuster Staab of Berlin, Germany. La Llorona, The Weeping Woman  I first heard of the legend of La Llorona nearly thirty years ago while I was living in Socorro, New Mexico. I was walking one night and heard the unmistakable sound of a woman crying, although there wasn’t a soul around.
Lalaurie Mansion of New Orleans  Mrs. Delphine Lalaurie and her third husband, Dr. Dr. Leonard Louis Nicolas Lalaurie moved into their new home at 1140 Rue Royal in 1832. Well respected and adored by New Orleans’ society, no one had any idea of the hideous atrocities of which they were capable. Lawson Children Haunt Squires Inn  In 1929, instead of candy and gifts, Christmas day brought murder and mayhem to the residents of Germanton, North Carolina. London’s Haunted 50 Berkeley Square  Since Victorian times, 50 Berkeley Square has had a reputation for being haunted and infested with “ghosts and other supernatural horrors.” The most haunted house in London. Evidently the horrors found inside of the house have even caused “death and madness.” Lydia, the Ghostly Hitchhiker  No matter from whence we hale, most of us ghost enthusiasts have heard the story of the teenage girl killed on the highway on her way to (or from) her high school prom. Since the time of her death, her ghost is encountered by many drivers on the same highway where she lost her life. Mine Shaft Tavern, Madrid, New Mexico  The Mine Shaft Tavern, said to be the most haunted place in Madrid, is also part of the historic area. Molly Brown House in Denver  Although I've never heard any rumors or stories about the Molly Brown House in my hometown of Hannibal, Missouri being haunted, evidently the Molly Brown House in Denver does have its share of ghostly apparitions. Monte Cristo Homestead in Australia [offsite link] Monte Cristo: Australia´s Most Haunted House Morgan Fairchild and a Ghost  As a young woman, Morgan Fairchild married a man in the music industry. For two years, she and her husband lived with her mother-in-law and the ghost of her mother-in-law’s father who tormented Morgan the entire time. Old Hood Residence in Portland  The ghosts of a murderer and his wife, the victim, share a home with the Brown family in North Portland, Oregon. Old House Woods in Diggs, Virginia  By Whites Creek near Chesapeake Bay in Matthews County Virginia, there is a small area comprised of dense pine trees and boggy terrain known as Old House Woods. The area is known to have been haunted for well over 200 years. Orphan Ghosts  Orphanages have existed in the United States for almost 300 years. Some provided safe and healthy environments for children to grow and learn. Others were virtual workhouses and children were neglected, starved, and abused. Is it any wonder that there are so many reports of mass hauntings by childre Patapsco Female Institute  "Many of the young female students died, including Annie Van Derlot, the daughter of a wealthy southern plantation owner, who died of pneumonia during her first winter at the school. Poltergeist of Wizard Clip, New Jersey  The story of how Wizard Clip, West Virginia got its name is a fascinating one centering on mysterious and paranormal events that took place in 1790. Preston Castle  Today, ghost hunters and psychics who visit Preston Castle claim that Anna Corbin is still there. Roses have been found scattered on the floor of her old apartment, and the sound of a woman screaming can be heard. A mist-like shape has been seen near the closet where Anna’s body was found Return to Haunted Willow Creek  Numerous paranormal investigations and medium visitations have taken place at this location in Cherry Grove Township situated in Carroll County, Illinois over the last several years due to reports of ghostly experiences. Richard Harris and The Tower House  Irish actor Richard Harris enjoyed telling the story of his home being haunted by the spirit of a small boy who had been buried in the tower at some point. Robert Slatzer and Marilyn’s Ghost  After about half an hour, the night became completely silent. Nothing moved in the air, not even a blade of grass stirred. Suddenly, “a terrific wind came up.” Slatzer said it was hurricane-like for several minutes, but not on the sides of the road. It was completely still all around them.
Rudolph Valentino’s Ghost  Although I had heard of the “woman in black” who brings red roses to the grave of Rudolph Valentino every year on the anniversary of his death, I wasn’t aware of the numerous sightings of the great lover in various places since he passed in late August of 1926. Sarah and Her Phantom Crew  Two best friends, happy young men, leave home to make their fortunes. Becoming smitten by the same young lady, a friendship is destroyed, and a ghost story is born. Secret Chamber at Glamis Castle  Glamis Castle in Angus, Scotland was the childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, birthplace of Princess Margaret, and is also considered to be the most haunted castle in Scotland. This phenomenon happens when sounds are recorded in alleged haunted locations. The American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena is an excellent resource on this topic. The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall [offsite link] The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall is the subject of one of the most famous ghost photographs in history. The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall  In December of 1936, one of the most famous “ghost photos” taken was published in Country Life Magazine. The picture was taken the previous September by professional photographers on assignment for the magazine to photograph the historic Raynham Hall in England. The Catacombs of the Capuchin  In Palermo, Sicily, southern Italy you can find one of the most gruesome sites you might have the opportunity to visit in your lifetime: catacombs lined with thousands of mummified humans preserved and still wearing the clothing they once wore while attending to the daily tasks of life. The Conductor at Maco Station  When an individual attempts to do a good deed, and dies in the process, one would think the spirit of the benevolent character would pass peacefully on to his or her next life. For some unknown reason, this isn’t always the case. The Disappearing Levi 501s  Betty Ann Morken of Roseau County, Minnesota, claims two male ghosts, John and Sam, are haunting their farm house, and stealing her husband's Levi blue jeans!
The Drummer of Tidworth (Tedworth)  A tale of poltergeist activity afflicting the Mompesson family in Tidworth, England in the early 1660s. The Eccentric Dr. Joseph McDowell  While working at the Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal, Missouri, years ago, I found the story of Dr. Joseph McDowell of St. Louis to be quite fascinating. His daughter died as a young girl, and he had her body pickled and stored in a cask in the cave. The Ghost of Nebraska Wesleyan University 
A young secretary working at the University of Nebraska Wesleyan had an experience on a sunny morning in early October of 1963 that changed her life forever. The event frightened Mrs. Coleen Buterbaugh enough that she left her job, and moved to Colorado. The Greenbrier Ghost  One of the earliest documented cases of domestic violence took place in Greenbrier County, West Virginia in 1897 when Elva Zona Heaster was murdered by her husband. This case is unusual because the victim found a way to ensure that her husband paid the price for his crime. The Haunted Hermitage  In the town of Hermitage, Tennessee on Rachel’s Lane, rests the old home of Andrew Jackson and his wife. The Hermitage plantation house was where Jackson was residing at the time of his death in 1845. Many visitors to the historic house, a museum since 1889, are certain Jackson is still there! The Haunted Library in Dublin  As a writer and adventurer, I seek out the mysterious, and often I find myself in remote areas. One of the best remote areas that I can imagine visiting is one in Dublin where the haunted Marsh Library is located. The Haunted Painting on Ebay  . . . I started to wonder if anything haunted had ever been sold on Ebay . . . for real. Of course there was . . . seems you can find just about anything you desire at that cyber shop. The story is a part of the fascinating history of New Orleans. The Haunting of Hurricane Mills  Loretta Lynn is a household name when it comes to country music, but most fans don't know about the extensive paranormal activity that has been a part of her life since she was a child. The King’s Tavern of Natchez  Not your “typical” haunted inn, The King’s Tavern has had some particularly horrific crimes take place in its history, including the appalling murder of an infant whose cries are heard to this day. The Lady in White at Dragsholm Slot  The castle was updated with new bathroom facilities in the 1930s, and old disintegrating walls were removed at that time. The construction workers found a skeleton wearing a white dress behind one of the decaying walls! The Lady of Red Mountain  Most of us know the story of Doc Holliday and his exploits after moving west in the hopes that the drier air would help his tuberculosis. But, unless you live in Manitou Springs, Colorado, you might not have heard of Emma Crawford.

"Kate" the "Bell´s Witch" is the story behind the movie "An American Haunting (2006)" The Murder of Nannie Womack  On December 8, 1908, in Jamestown, Kentucky, a nine-year-old little girl was found murdered in the woods near her home. The Pressing of Giles Corey  The death of Giles Corey, the only person in the United States who has been legally killed by "pressing." The Purple Mask Theater  This is a tale of a ghost called "Nick," who is said to haunt the campus of Kansas State University since his death during a football game in the 1950s. The Railway House in Massachusetts  In 1832, John Stone built and opened The Railway House by the train tracks in Ashland, Massachusetts. The inn was a very successful business, and Stone died a prosperous man in 1858. For some reason, his spirit lingers on at his old establishment, and it isn’t very nice. The Screaming Skull of Anne Griffith  The story of the screaming skull of Burton Agnes Manor of Yorkshire, England. The Spirit of Esther Hale  The town of Sprucevale, Ohio no longer exists, but one of its residents is still around.
