Am I on my own when I kneel in prayer? How do I know what to say to reach my Heavenly Father? How can I make my feelings known? Trouble tends to make us feel alone and often separates us from others. During times of trouble, prayer can be a lonely experience. Prayer at any time can seem lonely. Are we being heard?
As I read about prayer, in the Bible, I discovered that I'm never alone in prayer. I have two friends who have come along side me at the throne of God.
John 15:15 says that I am a friend of Jesus, if I follow Him. The Son of God, the Savior, calls me his friend.
Jesus stands at Godís right hand and is my advocate. He is there to escort me into the Fatherís presence - the presence of Almighty God,. There is no one who can say that Iím not good enough or dispute my right to be there. Jesus testifies that I am good enough because I am His. He is always interceding for those that are His.
The dictionary defines the word intercede as ďto act on behalf of someone in difficulty or trouble, as by pleading or petition.ĒI am in trouble and Jesus is pleading my case.
Hebrews 7:25 and Romans 8:34
Sometimes sorrow is so intense that the words won't come. My prayers seem to be over simplified or they don't express what is really in my heart. The Holy Spirit comes to my aid. He is called the Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate or Strengthener. He is a friend who prays on my behalf, forming my prayers in accordance with Godís will. He makes known the innermost longings of my soul. I may be unable to put my prayers into words, but I donít have to worry. The Holy Spirit, my guardian, expresses my deepest emotions to the Father.
John 14:16, Romans 8:26,27
So, as I am kneeling before the Almighty God, I imagine the Spirit hovering over me, translating my pitiful pleading into beautiful prayers that rise up to the Father. Kneeling at my side, with His arm around my shoulder, is my Savior, Jesus Christ, who intercedes for me. With this in mind, I know that the Father hears me and I'm never alone in prayer.
