New Plans for Golf in 2008
With our new Director of Golf Ralph Harris of the Mill Creek Golf Club is giving us a new look at how a Golf Club should be run. He is organizing all Club Tournaments with everything handled by the Pro Shop including new games and luncheons. This is completely different as in past years our Ladies Organizations were in charge of all our own tournaments. We only had to let the Administrator know what days we wanted to hold our tournaments. The rest was up to us, including type of game, prizes and food.

The Pro Shop has sent out in the new Newsletter announcing the Mill Creek Golf Club Events for the year for both Men and Women’s activities. For the Ladies our first Tournament will be our Member/Guest on May 7th and 8th. This will be one member and one guest making up a team. On the first day is practice round including a team putting, chipping and driving contests. On the second day will involve two 9 hole matches at 9:00 a.m. with a four-ball match followed by a luncheon. Then another 9 hole match at 12:30 p.m. which will be a best-ball match.

The type of play will be a points system awarded on each hole: ½ point for a tie, 1 point for a win and 1 additional point for winning the match. Handicapping is adjusted by the lowest handicap in each four-ball or best ball match. Each match is vs. one of the other two teams in your flight. All cards will be computer set up with handicaps marked for easy scoring.

Following the tournament and cards turned in a social time with Hors d’oeuvres, a trunk show and awards will be given out at Creekside Dining room. This will be a new and different type of Member/Guest than we have had in the past. Most of our other tournaments with our guest have been a Scramble and I have invited my daughter-in-law and two of her friends to form out team. We did win it one year in a rain shortened day and we always had a great time.

This year it will be a different type of tournament but the change may do us good. At least we do not have to do the work of setting up everything with all the plans that need to go with a big tournament. Our Ladies tournament Chairperson for this year is planning some special events for us throughout the summer. She is planning a Margarita event plus a Flag, Firecracker and a Presidents Cup throughout the summer. I will give you a report of these events when they occur. We have a full schedule of events for the year so things will be kept quite busy which is a good thing for our Club.

The rest of the year the tournaments planned for us will be the Member/Member and the Club Championship. The Member/Member will be September 10, 11 &12 with the first day a four hole par 3 contest for each flight or a practice round. The event itself is flighted by handicaps with a four-ball stroke play. Awards will be handed out at the luncheon at Creekside after the tournament on Friday.

The Club Championship will be Oct 10 it was requested that we have a two day tournament at this is being considered. Players will be flighted with Championship declared from red tees in gross and net play. A separate Senior (60-71) division from red tees and net only with a Masters (72+) special green tees net only. You will be paired with a player in your flight. A continental breakfast will be provided at 8:00 with tee times to begin at 9:00. An awards luncheon will follow play on the last day.
