The winter is almost over and just about everyone has cabin fever. Are you tired of those walls after the long winter? Are you ready for a new look? Well, don’t look any further for some creative interior painting tips.
Many people are still hung up on the old way of thinking that white walls will make a room look big. This is not necessarily true. They may be bright but they lack personality. If you have never painted a room a rich, bold color, now is the time to take a look and investigate the possibilities.
When I started to experiment with creative interior painting, I thought of the color of grass. It is a rich forest green color. What colors go with it and what colors do I already have? You need to do this if you already have furniture or will be using curtain. Well, if you think of flowers in the garden, just about every color looks good with the color of grass.
I painted my living room a deep forest green and chose a shade lighter for the dining room which is attached. Whether I use burgundy, yellow or salmon colored curtains, they all match exceptionally well. I can now change the look of these two rooms on a regular basis. Just change the curtains and you will have a new look.
1. If a room is small, using a rich color on the walls including the ceiling, will make the ceiling disappear. You can leave the ceiling white and use molding along the top of the walls to give contrast and definition to the two colors.
2. Let the room you are painting reflect your personality and your mood. Needless to say, the color must go along with your furniture. Think of your favorite colors and start looking at different shades for potential use.
3. A large room will indeed look larger and high ceilings will look higher. Use white molding to give great definition to your new color.
4. Be creative with your design. Using masking tape as your ruler, you can create interesting designs. For instance, place the tape on the wall creating a brick design. The larger the brick design such as cinderblock, the larger the room will appear. Now paint in between the masking tape. If you want to be really creative, take a second color, possibly a white or a shade lighter, and lightly sponge over the paint. When it is almost dry, remove the masking tape, step back and take a look at the beautiful wall you have created. A great place to do this in your entry way. I did it and people actually thought it was a tile or stone wall.
Spring is here and it’s renewal time. Unleash the creativity in yourself. After all, it’s only paint and paint is cheap. If you find that you are not happy with it, you can always paint over it. Almost always, doing some creative interior painting will not only brighten up your home, but will brighten up your mood and spirit.
