Sprucing Up Your Kitchen

Sprucing Up Your Kitchen
Everyone gets tired of their kitchen at some point in time. There was a time several years ago when I would redo my kitchen every two years. Whether it was the walls or cabinets, something had to be done. I was in the midst of raising my children and spent a lot of time at home particularly in the kitchen. And did I get tired of it fast. So I would redo something to create a new look that I could live with for awhile. Here are some ideas to help you if you are in need of a kitchen makeover without the major costs.

Walls

Sometimes just a new coat of paint or new wallpaper will do the trick. If painting, try sponge painting or rag painting to create a textured wall.

Windows

Change the curtains, get new blinds or put up shutters. Most times just changing the curtains can brighten up the kitchen. Try to come up with your own design and making them yourself instead of buying them.

Backsplash

Putting in a new backsplash can give a kitchen a new look. You can use tile, formica, tin or even mirrors. If using formica or mirrors, make sure to use a construction adhesive to installing.

Cabinets

Give the cabinets a good cleaning. You can also reface them. Most home improvement stores sell wood veneer which is used to reface furniture and cabinets and is moderately easy to do. Or you can just change the cabinet doors instead.

Adding molding to the tops of cabinets with make them look new.

Changing the hardware on the kitchen cabinets and drawers will give the kitchen an updated look.

Appliances

If it is not time to replace appliances but their color is outdated, you can purchase appliance paint and give them a fresh look. Some manufacturers even sell new fronts in different colors for appliances.

Flooring

Change the flooring. If the flooring is worn or out of date, you can easily put down new vinyl tile for a new look.

Decorate

Add some shelving and flowers. Making the kitchen brighter will help make it enjoyable to be in there. Putting some flowers or plants around, even if they are artificial, will bring life to a kitchen.

If you're of your kitchen's appearance, go ahead and pick and choose a project that will help spruce it up in a flash.
