Second Witness to Hole-in-One

One never knows when you start out with your friends on our usual Monday golf outing when something great will happen. We had eight gals playing this day and I was in the last group. It was a fairly nice day no wind and since I changed our starting time to 9:00 a.m. because of the Texas 90 degree temperatures in the afternoon. It is more comfortable for many and we finish early in the afternoon.

Charlie Jarnagan was in charge of our game of the day which was to throw out one bad hole on each of the nine holes played. She was in our group of four players, Lillian Larson, Sara Pettijohn and my self. Charlie was playing very well she had a birdie previously on a very hard hole and Sara mention to her at this rate you will probably have a hole-in-one. This day proved that Sara is a prophet as we witnessed a hole-in-one on this date that Charlie will remember June 23, 2008.

We came up to the next to the last hole on our Springs course #8 par three which has the tee box high on a hill and the green below us. Two of us were on the green but some distance away from the flag and Charlie hitting last slowly walked up to the tee box. She took a smooth swing and the ball flew high into the air coming down close to the pin. We silently watched in awe as the ball took one little hop into the hole. We all broke into screams and hugs as this hole is just perfect for seeing this happen. We finished the last hole and brought the news to the club house. The team of girls in front of us heard the screams and was waiting to see just who made the hole-in-one.

We had a little celebration as Charlie bought us drinks and the news spread. Joe her husband came in and she had to gloat that now she was one up on him as they were tied with three apiece. The sorry thing is that Charlie had not entered the Hole-In-One Club that we had started this past month. Two month previously we had asked our Director of Golf to start a Hole-in-One Club in the Pro Shop. Charlie did not know about this since they had been traveling in their motor home. That was such a shame as winning that pot would have been really nice. This was my second witness to a Hole-in-one and they are always exciting.
