Based on DC Comics character, Batman, created by Bob Kane, and as the sequel to the hit action film "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight, " distributed worldwide by Warner Bros Pictures, reunites co-writer and award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the lead role of Batman/Bruce Wayne.

In "The Dark Knight," Batman raises the stakes in his war against organized crime in Gotham City. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordan and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets off to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets of Gotham. This partnership proves to be quite effective, but they soon find themselves as prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as the Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy, and forces The Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger ("Brokeback Mountain") stars as arch-villain the Joker, a psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy, and Aaron Eckhart plays District Attorney Harvey Dent, hailed as Gotham's "White Knight", but becomes a murderous, disfigured vigilante called "Two-Face" after battling the Joker. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast of “The Dark Knight” in the role of Rachel Dawes, The Gotham assistant D.A.. Returning from "Batman Begins" are Gary Oldman as the City of Gotham Police Department’s Lieutenant Jim Gordan, one of the few cops who has not been corrupted; Oscar winner Michael Caine ("The Cider House Rules") as Alfred, Bruce Wayne's trusted butler; and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman ("Million Dollar Baby") as Lucius Fox, the recently-promoted CEO of Wayne Enterprises, and one of the few people that know of Bruce’s secret identity.

“The Dark Knight” was released on July 16, 2008. Since its release, the film has broken box office records for biggest opening day and biggest opening weekend. It surpassed $200 million in earnings during its first five days in movie theatres.
