Have you ever been stuck, not knowing what to write? Or watched the cursor blink on a blank page? Most of us have at one time or another. Then it’s time to exercise your mind. These writing prompts are designed to get your creative juices flowing. So grab a pen and paper or start up your word processor, which ever you prefer and let’s get started with some unique and fun writing prompts

That’s What She Said

Writing prompt #1

Starting out with some dialogue in a story is a great way to get your ideas flowing fast, especially if it’s in the form of a question.

Use this bit of dialogue to create your story:

“Do you think he’ll remember what he did last night?”

It’s Rhyme Time.

Writing prompt #2

Write a poem about yourself, someone you know or even a family pet in the style of Dr. Seuss. Use The Cat in the Hat, Fox in Socks or one of your favorites to get the ideas going. Which story will you step into?

Paper Doll

Writing prompt #3

Cut out a simple paper doll or draw a picture of a person. Carry it with you all day. At the end of the day write a story from your paper person’s perspective. What were they thinking about?

The Rest of Your Life

Writing prompt #4

If you had to spend the rest of your life in an amusement park, at the beach, or your favorite restaurant; which would it be and why?

Game Time

Writing prompt #5

Tear two different colored pieces of paper into 10 to 20 strips (big enough to write on). On the first color strips of paper write a character such as an old man, the scruffy dog, the freaky girl, etc…On the other colored strips of paper write a setting, the old churchyard, the doctor’s office, the park, etc… Wad up the pieces and mix them up in a bowl. Draw one of each color out and let the writing fun begin.

A Hallmark Moment

Writing prompt #6

Do you have some greeting cards? It can be ones that have been sent to you, ones that you have in a box or a combination of both. Take out five random cards. Use the first word that catches your attention on each. Write them down and start the creation process going.

These six should get you started. There are many unique and interesting prompts out on the internet. Writing prompts are everywhere. Pick one or more of the above and get writing! 
