Battlestar Galactica News Update
SciFi Channel’s “Battlestar Galactica” will return January 16, 2009 at 10 p.m. ET with the final episodes of the series. The series’ last 10-week run will culminate with the finale on March 20. Now, if you haven’t yet caught up with the show, you’ve still got several months in which to do it.

Here are your major options: first, DVD. All seasons of the re-imagined series are available on DVD, with the exception of the first part of Season 4. However, that boxed set is coming out January 6, which means you’ll have to watch one episode per night in order to get all 10 episodes watched by the time the show returns. That is, if you missed them all.

Four episodes from the fourth season are currently available for free at’s Web site. However, if you don’t want to purchase the DVDs, or if you’ve seen most of the episodes already but are missing a few you do have other options available to you. First, you can download all of the series by episode from’s Video On Demand service—each episode costs $1.99. Or, if you’ve got an Xbox 360 and an Xbox Live account, episodes are available there for a fee as well.

If you just need a refresher, the best place to get that is at the site, which features the most detailed synopsis of each episode, cross-referenced with past plot points and character information and including extra discussion questions and quotes.

As for the rest of the series run, all we know is that it starts from the point at which Galactica reaches Earth, only to discover that it isn’t exactly what they’d hoped for. The people involved are being tight-lipped, naturally, and the only extra clue we’ve been able to glean (from Richard Hatch) is that Tom Zarek (Hatch’s character) appears in many of the remaining episodes.

Also, following the conclusion of the series, SciFi Channel will air a new “Battlestar Galactica” film directed by series star Edward James Olmos. Michael Trucco (Anders), Aaron Douglas (Tyrol) and Dean Stockwell (Cavil) are among the actors making an appearance in the movie, which begins before the events of the miniseries. The press release for the movie says about the plot, “In the beginning, the Cylons had a plan, but it didn’t account for one thing: survivors. During the chaotic aftermath of the destruction, two powerful Cylon agents struggle with plots and priorities on the human ships that got away, and among the resistance fighters who were left behind.”
