Beating the Winter Blues

Every year seems to bring around the same feeling. Once the holidays are over, the cold winter holds on just as we are ready to be done with it. Cold, snowy days can begin to get on your nerves especially when you are stuck inside the house for longer periods of time. Even though the days are getting longer, January is about the right time of year that cabin fever sets in.

Beating the winter blues can be accomplished simply by doing some redecorating. Here are some ideas to help you along the way:

-Take a look at what needs to be done or just pick a room that needs a new look.
-Make a list of things that need to be tended to in the spring when the whether is better and things that can be done now. This will save a lot of time later on in the season.
-Come up with a plan. Is there a room that could use a fresh coat of paint? Maybe it just needs a few new accessories to bring it alive.
-Go through any leftover paint first. Recycle and use what you can before purchasing new paint. Look for two or three colors that compliment each other. These can be used to refresh a bathroom and bring it back to life.
-Painting any room can bring it up to date and style. When choosing a color, try neutral, soothing colors. Don't forget to use bold colors for accent.
-Use scrap material that has bright colors to create pillow covers for throw pillows. This is a great way to bring color to a winter, dreary room.
-Take stock of any leftover material sitting around the house. Use old bamboo or molding to give new life to a mirror or picture frame.
-If you have old comforters stored away, take them out and see if they can be used around the home. If they are for larger beds, cut them down to size and recycle they for use on smaller beds.
-Rearrange the furniture in a room. Sometimes that is all it takes to make the room look and feel better.

Whatever you choose to do, the best thing is to get up and get busy doing something. Whether it is redecorating a room or just cleaning out closets, the best way to beat the winter blues is by moving around and feeling like you have accomplished something. Remember that each day means that spring is getting closer to being a reality.
