The Masters is History!

Guest Author - Letta Meinen

Such a great tournament with many amazing shots and many unpredictable shots and the losers go home having lost another race for the Green Jacket. There is so much hype before the tournament begins as the Masters at Augusta National is the first big major tournament for the Professional Golfers. Throw in Pro golfers from around the world and a few Amateurs and the mix is worth the watch. That is on Television Big Screen, as I could not imagine what it would be like to be up close and personal with fans fifteen deep around the greens. I am sure the reason is to say, I was at the Masters.

I was for the older golfer Kenny Perry as he was doing so well and holding his cool all the way until the very end in the playoff. The tension and nerves can take its toll after four days of mastering the Augusta National golf course. Then along comes Angel Cabrera from Argentina to out last the two older gentlemen golfers. Our own Texan Chad Cambell could not hang in there on the first hole of the sudden death playoff.

It was amazing after all the hype of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson playing together in their final round. Phil made a run of it with five birdies on the front nine and it looked like he could win it all. Then Tiger made a run of it with Eagles but he too could not hold on in the end.

The real winner was the Augusta National Golf Course with itís layout of rugged terrain, pine needles, beautiful flowers, sand and water to make the players play golf with an edge. It is a show piece, its history only help with its charm and private membership. The weather cooperated and it was truly golfing weather with slight winds and sunny skies the full four days.

One always waits for the golfers to pass Amen Corner as these are the three hardest holes of the course #11, #12, and #13. You know someone will drop a few shots along the way. Amen Corner is world famous even my grandson lives on a street here in Texas called Amen Corner and yes he lives on a golf course. He said he felt right at home there as it reminds him of the Masters Golf Tournament.

This is Angel Cabreraís second time winning the Masters and his fans in Argentina give him a royal welcome when he returns. Of course we want an American golfer to win these tournaments but they have to prove that they can do it and nobody this year was up for the task. Check out the web site at as it will give a full coverage of this great tournament plus pictures of this event.
