Elephant listens

Horton Boxed Set contains Horton Hatches the Egg(1940) and Horton Hears a Who!(1954). Dr. Seuss writes and illustrates the picture books which Random Houses publishes. The Classic Hardcover books are for juveniles/kids between four and eight-years-old. Sixty-four pages are in each early reader. Horton the elephant is a beloved fictional character.

Horton Hatches the Egg plot/summary: Lazy-Mayzie asks Horton to keep her egg warm so she can take a break. He agrees, but the lazy bird flies off to unknown parts. Days, weeks, months go by without a peep or chirp from the bird. Horton stays with the egg. The fun part is what happens while she is away. Dr. Seuss rhyming text and whimsical animals engages the reader in his beautiful fable. Will Lazy-Mayzie return?

Horton Hears a Who! plot/summary One fine day, Horton strolls through the forest(jungle) and finds a village of Whos on a speck of dust. After conversing with the mayor, he agrees to protect the tiny creatures. Horton places them on a clover head. The craziness begins when the other animals cannot see and hear the people of Who-Ville. They want to destroy the clover. An eagle takes the clover and drops it in a large field of clover. The chase begins. Will Horton find and save the Whos? The fable’s ending is quite thought provoking.
