Alternative Lifestyle - Dream Symbols
Dreams of homosexuality may indicate an imbalance of male and female energy. We all have both masculine and feminine aspects of our personalities. Carl Jung called these aspects animus and anima. Jung said that the animus in dreams was likely to be represented by a group of males while the anima was symbolized by a single female. Female energy is caring and nurturing. Male energy is aggressive and ambitious.

For heterosexuals, dreams of homosexuality might indicate an imbalance of these energies. Perhaps you are a male who is uncomfortable revealing your softer side. Although we've known better for a long time, our society is still tied up in gender sterotypes. You may have been socialized to fit that stereotype, especially if you are a baby-boomer or were born before then. Men don't cry, show emotion or ask for help. Ask yourself why you are having difficulty and reflect on what you can do to deal with the issue. It is believed that men may have shorter lifespans due to the stress caused by failing to release painful emotion. If you are female, perhaps you have been called names like "man-hater" or "dyke" by insecure people. It may be a consequence of your job. You may be in a situation where male aggression would be appropriate and necessary but you are having trouble being assertive. Ask yourself why you are afraid to stand up for yourself and seek support and affirmation.

If you are struggling with sexual orientation issues, these dreams may be common and recurring. If you are having difficulty resolving them on your own, support is available. Check with local counseling agencies to find services in your area or visit the Gay/Lesbian Relationships site at Bella.

Dreams of homosexuality may also indicate repressed creativity. Are you a man who likes decorating, needlework or dancing? Abraham Maslow advised the self-actualized person to "Be independent of the good opinion of others." Have you abandoned an artistic hobby? It may be time to reconnect with your creative soul. Look at whether you are living your life for you or just living and acting out someone else's expectations and demands.

May all your dreams come true!
