It has been a cold, bitter winter for most people across the Nation. Keep warm and safe and take care of the Elders and children. The Elders are our link to the Ancestors, our Heritage Keepers, and the children are our future. Care for them, for they are Creator's precious gift to us.

We still have some snow hanging around here and there in Washoe Valley, but the bitter freezing has let up and we are no longer slipping and sliding everywhere we go. My dog is much happier going outside without freezing his paws. I had to make him stand in warm water several times after a walk just to thaw out his toes. The moccasins I made for him do not want to stay on those paws of his.

Most Reverend Donald E. Pelotte has walked on, January 7, 2010.

For many years, the Most Rev. Donald E. Pelotte was a regular attendee of the national Tekakwitha Conference celebrating Native American spirituality.
The Waterville native who became the first Roman Catholic bishop of Native American heritage was himself half-Abenaki, and half-Franco-American.
