Dear Readers,
Our beautiful March weather continues – lots of sunshine and mild temperatures. Under the fierce brightness the snow is melting. Patches of bare ground are starting to show and hard packed trails are becoming raised thoroughfares as the loose snow on either side melts away. It won’t be long before geese and swans are seen flying overhead. Spring is definitely on the way.
The Iditarod is finishing up as the last handful of mushers will be in to Nome by Monday. Lance Mackey proved that last year’s back-to-back Quest and Iditarod victories were no fluke. With Jeff King hot on his heels this year, he managed to pull off the same feat this year – a feat that no one thought was possible. King and Mackey will be competing one more time this year in the All Alaska Sweepstakes at the end of the month:

In a state where dog mushing is the official sport and the Iditarod ranks amongst the top-billed sporting events of the year, a race has to be exceptional to stir the excitement of Alaskans and mushers alike. The All-Alaska Sweepstakes, set to start March 26, 2008, fits the bill.
