Knut, Berlin Zoo’s young polar bear, has died

He was much loved and his antics as a cub brought the life and world of a polar bear into many people's lives for the first time. Knut, Berlins Zoo’s celebrated and charismatic young polar bear, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s one time Vanity Fair cover companion, beat the odds to survive after his birth in December 2006, but has died at the age of only four years, very young for an ice bear.

Was it because he was in a zoo, although there would have been no way he could have been released into the wild, was it stress with his enclosure companions, did he still miss the keeper who looked after him and whose death and absence seemed to send him into a depression..........or did his mother sense something was wrong after his birth four years ago when she killed first his brother and then tried to do the same with him.

Perhaps there will be an answer after the medical examination on Monday 21st.
