Beer Fox Tip of the Week
Looking for a unique gift for someone who loves art? How about a gift basket that showcases the most artistic beer labels in the world? If modern art is your bag, focus on labels from Flying Dog with the art of Ralph Steadman, Tilburg's Dutch Brown Ale from Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven B.V., vaguely reminiscent of Heironymous Bosch, or Taras Boulba from Brasserie de la Senne in the style of Picasso's Guernica.
For those who like more classical art, Noire De Chambly from Unibroue or De Proef Flemish Primitive Wild Ales should do the trick.
Beer Fox Laugh of the Week
A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem. While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, "You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land, for $150." The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home. The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here, and you would only spend $150?"
The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can't take that chance..."

"Call for Entries! Free Transport to the UK!
The London International Beer Challenge is grateful for the cooperation of the Boston Brewing Company who will be acting as a consolidation point for all American entries to the 2010 competition. As an additional incentive to ensure we have beers from the greatest craft brewers on the planet in 2010 we will be covering transport for entries from Boston to London!
Each year the challenge discovers and rewards the finest beers from across the globe and in association with its media partners, promotes its medalists to buyers and retailers. In 2009, for the first time, there was a consumer tasting of IBC medal winning beers. Building on this success in 2010 we will hold more dedicated consumer events and extensive PR ensuring medalists are showcased and the awards gain recognition with beer drinkers.
Judging will take place on May 25th and 26th 2010. To enter complete an entry form: http://www.internationalbeerchallenge.com/entryportal.php

Craft Beer of the Week Award
Aecht Schlenkerla Helles Lager - Brauerei Heller-Trum/ Schlenkerla, Bamberg, Germany
Style: Munich Helles Lager - 4.3% ABV
The nose announces the main event: beechwood smoke so intense it brings to mind summers by a campfire or winter evenings of bonfires and fireworks in the distance. A glowing copper body sits like a burning ember in the glass, feeding your eyes. The creamy head sits above, tight and firm, as if trying to turn itself into a vaporous fog. Fragrant and woodsy, it is balanced on the edge between sweeter pale malts and hops that define a more bitter snap at the finish. Pair with bleu cheese, chunky sharp, or more assertive smoked cheeses to echo the power. Worth the search!
Cheers!
