Dear Readers,
It’s hard to believe it’s nearly April. As I was driving home from Fairbanks a few days ago, I spotted several flocks of snow buntings – a sure sign that spring is fast approaching. Days are warm (above freezing) and nights are mild. It won’t be long before our winter’s snowfall melts away, ushering in the short but intense gardening seasons.
While I was in Fairbanks I had the opportunity to catch one day of the Open North American Championship race. I had a great time watching the teams of highly trained sprint dogs lope down the trail, making it all look so easy. I don’t think there’s anything much more beautiful than a well trained and coordinated dog team moving quietly (and quickly!) down a trail.
Have a great week,
Kimi

Open North American Championship
A clear blue sky stretches across Creamer’s Field on this March day in Fairbanks. Though the temperature is about 20° F, my fingertips are slightly numb due to the nippy breeze. It is Day 3 of the Open North American Championship.
