Dear Readers,
I’m writing from Nome this week, where I’ve been watching and volunteering for the All Alaska Sweepstakes. It was an exciting race – Mitch Seavey came in on Friday night (race organizers were expecting the first finishers on Saturday night), shattering John “Iron Man” Johnson’s 1910 record by more than 12 hours. Jeff King came in about ten minutes later. The four time Iditarod champion got caught from behind again toward the end of the race, just as he did in this year’s Iditarod. Only this time the charge came from Seavey, rather than Lance Mackey. Mackey finished third, a couple of hours behind the leaders.
Nome is an interesting town, and I’ve enjoyed learning about its rich historical past. I’ll be writing about over the next couple of weeks, as well as posting some Sweepstakes pictures, so check back often for the latest!
Meanwhile, for any of you planning a trip to Anchorage in the future, I posted a review of the Holiday Inn Express this week. When I have to stay in Anchorage, this is my lodging of choice: clean, affordable, and a great continental breakfast!
