Beer Fox Tip of the Week:
If you are a Homebrewer who takes pride in your craft, consider growing your own hops. They grow well between the 40th and 50th parallel, and require sunshine, loamy, well-drained soil that stays moist during the growing season, and a trellis or some other such device to climb. Fertilize soil with potash, phosphates and nitrogen. Manure compost or a commercial fertilizer should work well.
You will want to obtain root cuttings, or rhizomes, that are 8 to 12 inches long, from the female type (male types do not produce hop cones used in brewing.) March is the perfect time of year to obtain your cuttings, with harvest in August or September.

A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them.
His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing. The man says "I'm sending out 1,000 Valentine cards signed, 'Guess who?'"
"But why?" asks the man. "I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replies.
