Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

The Society Against Dishonest Pouring in Germany and CAMRA's Honest Pint Campaign are two major forces at work in Europe to assure the public is given the proper amount of drink for their Euros.

The SADP estimates that a finger's width less beer in a pour can account for a significant profit for the biergarten at the expense of the beer drinker.  At Oktoberfest alone, this can account for a loss of 4.2 million Euros worth of beer - in American currency, that amounts to over 5 million
bucks worth of unserved brew.

If you prefer the joy of the draught, you may want to check that you are getting your fair pour.

...and remember to tip your server when they serve you well!

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

On their first date, Joe took Rose to the carnival. When he asked her what she wanted to do first, Rose replied, "Get weighed."

So Joe took her to the man with the scale who guesses people's weight. He looked at Rose and said, "One hundred and twenty pounds." Since Rose weighed in at one seventeen, she collected a prize.

Next they went on the roller coaster. When the ride was finished, Joe asked Rose what she wanted to do next. "Get weighed," she said. So they went back to the man with the scale, who of course guessed Rose's weight correctly.

Leaving without a prize, they went for a ride on the merry-go-round. After they got off, Joe asked Rose what she wanted to do next. "I want to get weighed!" she said again.

Joe began to think this girl was quite strange, and decided to end the evening quickly. He left her at the door with a quick handshake.

Rose's roommate was waiting up for her to return and asked how the evening went.

"Wousy!" Rose replied.

Beer News:

New beer to the scene - Broken Halo IPA, 6.0 % ABV, Widmer Brothers Brewing, Portland, Oregon, USA

With a high level of Cascade and Columbus Hops, Broken Halo sports a body rich in flavonoids, micronutrients that have beneficial antiviral, anti-allergic, anti-platelet, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and antioxidant effects on human health. Research conducted by Fred Stevens at Linus Pauling Institute of Oregon State University found that xanthohumol, an antioxidant found in flavonoids in hops "clearly has some interesting cancer chemo-preventive properties, and the only way people are getting any of it right now is through beer consumption."

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Dark Doppelbock - Capital Brewery, Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
Style:  German Style Doppelbock

A gem-like clarity of burgundy-chestnut rests beneath a thin, hoary-tan head that dissipates to a light ring with delicate lacing.  Caramel, toffee, bread, and plums rise to the nose, beckoning you to delve into its temptations.  A sweet, toasted warmth of spices, figs, wood and toffee greets the palate with full-bodied density and rings of alcohol enveloping your head in its silken texture.  Finishes dry and smooth.

Cheers!
