August 20 2009 Alaska Newsletter

Hi folks!

As I promised, here is a newsletter with actual NEWS in it! I have a fresh article out today!

I admit, I am a big fan of Alex, Hugh, Lisa and the rest of the "Ice Road Truckers" on the TV show. By the number of questions I've received regarding this show (based in Alaska the past two seasons) and about driving the infamous Dalton Hwy, I decided this would be a good topic for an article.

Here's the latest offering from the Alaska site at BellaOnline.com.

The Dalton Highway
The Dalton Highway, also known as “the haul road”, connects Fairbanks, Alaska with Deadhorse, Alaska and the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. This spectacular stretch of highway spans open tundra as well as the treacherous Brooks Range. The Dalton Hwy runs parallel to the Alaska Pipeline much of its length.

Let me know what you think of this piece. I know that for me, at least, having "traveled" the highway along with the truckers each week made doing research for this article much more personal and interesting. I hope this came through in my words.

We are still in the middle of our "Alphabet Game - Alaskan Animals" on the forum, so feel free to jump in and join us. The winner will be whoever sends in the most Alaskan Animal names (in alphabetical order) as we go through the alphabet. We were up to the letter "J" as of this morning (8/19). Our winner will receive a small personal gift from myself - something appropriately Alaskan! I'm trying to add a little input on the various furry and feathered critters as they pop up along the way. I hope you are enjoying my comments. No gifts will be sent to family or personal friends - sorry guys! But everyone is encouraged to participate. Oh, and I've also put up a couple more photos. Enjoy!

I hope to hear from you sometime soon, either in the forum or in response to this email message. I look forward to your feedback and enjoy corresponding with you!

Have fun passing this message along to family and friends, too. The more the merrier!
