CLEAN THOUGHTS
Fortunately, or unfortunately, however you choose to look at it, I stay in hotels a lot. Sometimes I get bored with travel and other times I am energized by it. I was once stuck in Moscow for about ten days and was staying at the Marriott Grand Hotel on Tverskaya St. I say "stuck" because there were some paperwork problems I was having that kept me there longer than I had wanted. Because it was mid-December, I wasn't out sightseeing and spent a lot of time waiting on the phone to ring in my room. Having that "opportunity," I got to see how hotel maids in Moscow kept that hotel looking as though humans didn't stay or work there. Everything gleamed.
What I noticed was how busy they were wiping, polishing, and rubbing everything to a glorious reflection. There was a set routine to the cleaning. They'd make beds, dust, clean bathrooms, polish everything, vacuum and then leave. Over and over...day after day. Another city with a polishing fever? Singapore. You don't dare to even have a dirty thought there! Every shopkeeper polishes and wipes and has a bucket of cleaner and a cloth at the ready in case a smudge even thinks about marring the beautiful finish of the brass handles of their shops or the glass counters.
Ready today's article on polishing. It's cleaning's last -- and often overlooked -- step. Shine on!
Warmly,
