German Culture

May 3 2012 German Culture Newsletter

It is approaching 'One of Those Anniversaries' again, the ending of the WWII, at least in Europe, and the latest article is a review of a newly published book:

HITLERLAND - American Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power, which is by a former Newsweek staffer Andrew Nagorski, and gives an insight on 'interwar' life in Germany, from the view point of American journalists, diplomats and socialites who lived there. Many of whom were initially impressed when the Nazis took over.

Hitlerland - American Eyewitnesses - Book Review

And our German phrase for this week is one that we really don't want to be told:

'Was redest du da wieder fuer einen kaese'

Kaese is cheese, but it doesn't mean how great our knowledge of the world's various cheeses is, but:

'What a lot of rubbish you are talking again' covers many aspects of life, living and the culture in Germany, and has a forum

so if you have any comments, questions or ideas for topics hope to hear from you, either in the forum or via email message.
