Autumn is not so far away now, and soon German kitchens will be filled with flour, eggs, water and the aromas of herbs and sauces, because the SPAETZLE season will have arrived. Here are the latest articles from the German Culture site at BellaOnline.com.
SPAETZLE, GERMANY'S PASTA, IDEAS AND RECIPES
Spaetzle, what are they, what do you eat them with and how are they served?
Documented as far back as the 11th Century they played an important role in Germany's 'every day' diet, until potatoes were finally accepted 'as a food for humans' by the country's people. The delicious little egg rich pasta noodles or dumplings have, in one form or another, been a ‘Comfort Food’ for centuries, especially in Southern Germany, but in all their many variations Spaetzle have become a favourite meal throughout the country.
Here is an easy and authentic recipe to make them at home, together with some recipes and ideas for popular regional Spaetzle dishes.
