Father's Day Prompts

Father's Day Prompts
Father's day is not just a day that we pay tribute and honor to our own father's, but a day that the nation honors and recognizes what it means to fill the role filled by fathers. Our nation celebrates Father's day on the third sunday in June. I've included seven prompts for you to use in your journaling to honor your father or someone who filled that role in your life. You might want to consider adding to your journal some of the historical facts surrounding father's day. For instance, when it began, where it began, why it began, who started it, and how was it first celebrated.

I have fond memories of my father, I know not everyone does. I have gathered together some prompts that relate to father's to help us explore what your father, or the person who filled this role in your life means. How their influence in our life molded and shaped us in our life journey. And most importantly how this influence has inspired you in your journaling. Does your father journal? Was it something that was passed down to your from your father or is it a new hobby that began with you?

Here are the prompts to help you explore what a father was in your life:

1. Do you have fond memories of your father?

2. Was it your father or a father figure that made these memories?

3. What is the earliest memory you have of your father or father figure?

4. Describe the above memory in terms of how you perceive it to be, whether good or bad?

5. Describe the person who filled the fatherly role in your life. Use physical characteristics.

6. What role did your father play in your life? Was he active, passive, etc.?

7. What is your picture of the ideal father? How did yours measure up?

8. Does anyone else stand out in your life who filled the role of a father? What are your memories of this person?

9. Describe some moments from your childhood that your father played a part in?

10. Describe your favorite activity you shared with your father?

11. Describe any similarities between you and your father?

When using prompts for your journaling, try to avoid yes and no answers. Use descriptive terms and be as specific as possible. We want you to have fun journaling, not feel like your doing homework.
