Broccoli Cauliflower Nutrition Information
Broccoli and Cauliflower certainly look similar. Both have bundly heads of lots of "flowers", very tiny and squished together. Both have very thick stalks which are usually not eaten. Yes, one is white and one is green. Did you know that in essence they're the exact same plant? It was selective breeding that ended up with two separate items.
Both broccoli and cauliflower are very healthy for you, and perfect for weight loss! Broccoli has 1.7g of carbs per half cup, while cauliflower has 1.5g per half cup. Both of these are very low numbers! They are high in vitamin C and are good for fiber too.
In essence, cauliflower was developed over many years by growing broccoli away from the sun. In fact if you grow your own cauliflower at home, one of the steps is to cover it up to bleach the top area.
Both of these plants are directly related to the cabbage plant. Many people are sensitive to chemicals in this family of plants and get gas when they eat too much of them. If this is you, never fear! There are many products on the market that can help you deal with this problem. Just take one of the capsules before a meal and you are all set.
Of course, if you find yourself without a capsule, just eat them in smaller quantities so they do not affect you in this way when you're out or with company. Space them out amongst other food bites so that your system has time to process the food over time.
There are a lot of great recipes for broccoli and cauliflower. They do very well as a creamy soup. You can steam them for fresh flavor, or mix them into a stew.
I realize there are a lot of jokes out there about broccoli and cauliflower being "icky foods". They are really tasty if made properly!! Make it a mission to try out a few recipes, and try dishes out at restaurants where you know they'll do a good job at it. You may find that you're inspired and start to really enjoy and love these veggies!
My personal suggestion is to start with broccoli and cheese soup! You can get a small portion, it's cheesy, it's tasty.
